Man, you guys really talked about food a lot on this show. Love it. My kind of show.
Spoon, the next time you’re in a restaurant that serves fresh oysters (best between September and December), do yourself a favor and try them. Get past the texture, get to the flavor. They taste like the sea, and it’s the true taste of seafood. Try one plain, then another with a little horseradish, maybe another with a squirt of lemon, or a spritz of hot sauce. They are fantastic. I know a lot of people (my wife included) will not ever try eating these because of the texture. But if you’re a fan of fresh seafood, really fresh, in-season oysters are the sea’s gift to you.
But if you’re not interested, you’re just not interested. I ate my first one on a dare, and I loved it. I’ve been hooked ever since. If you don’t want to eat them raw, but still want to experience the flavor of them, I ate one of the best fried oyster sandwiches in my life right there in your town. The Original Oyster House on Market Square in Pittsburgh is a greasy hole-in-the-wall that made one of my most memorable oyster experiences. I washed the sandwich down with a cold PBR, and enjoyed every last bite.
Oh, and regarding wings – gotta agree with what you said about Hooters. I don’t know what made their wings so popular, but I’ve tried every variation on their menu and they pale in comparison to what you can do at home or what you get when you go to Frank’s in NY. But put the word “Extreme”, “Inferno” or “Habanero” next to something and people immediately flock to it. Bunch of lambs. They tasted old to me, but the boobs are nice to look at, for what that’s worth.
And don’t cook with bad beer.
That’s food abuse. Throw the beer out.
OK fellas first things first…Erie guy and Butler dude let’s do this by the letters COR A OPOLIS that’s a long American Indian A COR A OPOLIS OK maybe we make it EE instead of A, it’s really a lazy long A but coropolis is not an option. As far as westsIIIDE! I like when the cats down Coropolis gang sign DoublewIIDE! Concerning the Iron City Brewery, I appreciate this coverage. Check out this link from management..but read the comments hmmm Chicago mob influence anyone? http://www.wpxi.com/news/18480960/detail.html Cricket is in Bloomfield/Shadyside not Oakland (this little shit is important to us yinzers) run by dykes and I could provide hella stories. Keep up the good work guys!!. BTW Military Special Bourbon Whiskey aging in the BEV lounge as we speak. Bloomfield Bridge Wee Heavy will be conditioned soon, I’d like to send you some to review, also Iron Curtain Baltic Porter, Hop This Tongue Splitter and Steel Curtain Double Chocolate Stout. See Ya
Phil, I should clarify that when he says bad beer he means it didn’t turn out how he wanted. I’ve actually found out that some of his flubs have made for a great marinade. acidity really breaks down some of the cheaper cut meats for a stew or tips.
Hutch, It’s actually North Oakland

Look at Coropolis though, no way can you get a strong “E” out of that.
You sir have the best names representing the local scene more than some of these other yahoos. I look forward to drinking your brew!
First off, congrats to the Steelers for their win last night! Good show as always – if I see any Boulevard beers around I’ll give ‘em a shot (well, maybe not the wheat). I had the Southampton Pumpkin Ale on tap at home and thought it was a really good beer. Tasty, but not overly spiced like a lot of pumpkin ales seem to be.
Also, thought you might want to know that a former Butternuts brewer will be the brewmaster (Leo Bongiorno) at a new brewpub located at Shawnee on the Delaware called Shawnee Craft.
Hey Stingo! Glad you liked the show! Do you have any more info on why he left Butternuts? I would be interested to know.
CHEERS!
Sadly, no, I don’t know why he left. The only other detail I’m aware of is that his specialty is brewing Flanders style sour ales, so maybe that wasn’t happening for him at Butternuts.
And on a personal note, count me in with the laid off crew, as I just got the axe today. Still, good people and good friends abound.
stingo, sorry to hear that bud. We may have to come up with an unemployment show soon. sickpup gets a few more months than I do so we have some time to plan.
I love to hear a beer show from PA!! Who else says hocker??
Hit me up in Philly
Much love

heh, I haven’t publicized it too much besides a couple mentions on the show. I’ve been debating on if I’ll do video a few times just to change it up a bit.
1. I have *been* drunk on Amtrak. BECAUSE of Goose Island. Lansing ->Chicago->Lansing daily Amtrak = teh danger
2. I can hook y’all up with Goose Island and Bell’s from my Michigan hood. Great podcast, guys. Highly entertaining.
(I found your blog/cast on bricksandboxes)
OK so it’s official, we need to ride Amtrak and record a show on it. I think Jess is the voice of reason here
