  1. Madison Bill Said,

Well, guess I won’t be buying any Butternut beer. Just more bad brews out of cans.
Perhaps you should have poured the contents through a Gray Kangaroo. However,
some beers can’t be helped no matter what you do with them. While listening to
you two ‘belly ache’ about the lousy brews, I was partaking of a 2007 Sam Adams
Imperial Pilsner. I just got news (via email) tonight that SA will be offering this great
    brew again next month.

    Another enjoyable show …

  2. Father Spoon Said,

Bill, trust me when I say it was SO bad that we had to leave our belly aching in there about it. I loved the IP when it was out last year but could only drink 1-2 before my mouth puckered. pure deliciousness!

Oh, and I would never disrespect the GK by pouring that swill down it.

    prost!

  3. Phil Said,

Nice tribute to Jerry Reed. Never was a big fan, but I know he was a legend.

Wow, this was painful to listen to. You torched this brewery. I found it ironic that you had beers from The Good Beer Show on your last episode, followed by some seriously bad beers on this one.

So funny what you said about cartoons on the labels of beer too. Groucho & CHUD stayed away from Fantome Saison because of the stupid ghost on the label, then they had it on my suggestion and loved it. Now they’re wondering how many other great beers they’ve not tried because of what they considered bad labeling.

If I were you, I wouldn’t expect any love letters from Butternut after this one. I hope that maybe you guys just got some bad cans of beer, maybe they got hot at some point or something. I don’t know a lot of breweries that make a bad beer every time. It’s unfortunate in this case, because people would easily blame the fact that it’s in cans, and canned beer is on the rise in craft brewing.

CFF is one of my main fundraisers every year, so it was great to hear you pimping the Brewing Up a Cure event. We do the great strides walk every Spring and raise a ton of money for CF, which is still cutting precious lives short at too great a pace, but thanks to the CFF and events like this, we’re making progress. Cheers to the dudes at TRUB for their hard work.

  4. Madison Bill Said,

Forgot to mention about the Jerry Reed tribute. I remember most of his songs, from Amos Moses to
East Bound and Down. Was surprised that he was only 71. I looked him up on Wikipedia for Bio info.
I’ll have to drink one to Jerry while listening to George Jones’ “Who’s going to fill their shoes?”. A fitting
    tribute.

Yeah, the Sam Adams Imperial Pilsner is easily as hoppy as a lot of IIPAs (double IPAs). Its BIG, its BRASH,
and its Balanced too. Not a session brew, but great if you’re only having one or 2. Also good as a
session finisher, as it will clean out your palate and tastebuds!

As for the Butternut(s), I would think that after chugging that Clamato Chelada swill, you could handle
anything. Could Butternut possibly be worse than Bud with tomato and clam juice? I don’t think so!

    Cheers!

  5. Drunkenpolack Said,

HAH I see a lot of blogs get free samples from the brewery you blasted and well it’s pretty much the same results. I’m glad I don’t need to try that shit now.

  6. Father Spoon Said,

Clarke – the TRUB guys are all top notch and I’m glad we could help them out. I may have to send you some Butternuts just for the hell of it :)

Bill – I would rather drink the Chelada again. just sayin…

Drunken Polack – even if we got a VIP trip/tour of the place and free beer for a year I will never drink this again. Well maybe once to prove the fact it sucks.

  7. Mike Harris Said,

hey guys, a friend told me to check you out, so i did. the first show i heard was the Butternuts show which suprised me since ive drank that before and its all over NYC. it seems that everyone in NYC loves it (alaso it was in the bar at Nassau Coliseum the other night when i went there for a game) and when i was in Boston last month, i went into 3 bars and they all had it. it seems to me your horrible at what you do. get a new hobby.

  8. Father Spoon Said,

Mike, for someone who works for Butternuts Beer & Ale I’d expect a better comment. I’d be willing to try it again if you give me a reason.

Spend more time on your brewing than online.

    cheers
    -spoon

  9. sickpuppy Said,

Well, out of 44 episodes, this is the only time we had an issue with an entire brewery and as you can see from
other comments, we are not the only ones who thought your beers were sub-par.

So “it seems to me your horrible at what you do. get a new hobby.”

So if we disagree with you we are horrible at what we do and need to get a new
hobby? That sounds perfect! The truth is we hated your beers, get over it.

  10. stingo Said,

This was one of your better shows. However, I think in a previous episode (42?), it was sickpuppy encouraging people to give a beer a chance – revisiting it in a month or two to see if you like it then. Does Butternuts get a second chance? Keep up the good work.

  11. sickpuppy Said,

    Hey Stingo!
You are absolutely right, if we can get our hands on more of this I would be more than willing to give it another shot! Thanks for being a fan Stingo! Glad you enjoy the shows!

  12. Father Spoon Said,

Butternuts can, as suckpuppy would say, eat a fucking bullet and headbutt a train
